Color Myths: “What if I Dye My Hair?”

Myth: If you dye your hair, you’ll switch seasons.

Fact: Your Season is determined by your skin’s genetically-determined undertones, not your hair color.

Dyeing your hair can’t change your season, but it will certainly change how you look. Whether or not that change is the result you’re looking for comes down to…you guessed it…your season!

If you want to change your hair color, you can virtually guarantee a spectacular result by choosing a hue and toner that suits your season and sub-season. For example, auburn red is ravishing on Warm Autumns, but may overpower Soft Autumns. Light Summers shine in the coveted cool platinum, whereas Cool Summers come to life in darker ash blonds and brunettes.

Before and after comparison of a woman with different hair colors, showing how hair dye can change the appearance of her natural undertones — debunking color analysis myths.

Take my stunning client, Alise, for example. She’s a Warm Autumn, and her beauty is innate and undeniable, no matter what color she puts on. In both of the images below, she is wearing clothing, makeup, and jewelry in her colors.

However, which side of these images looks more genuine and magnetic, drawing you in effortlessly? On which side do her skin and eyes sparkle with clarity?

Left: Off-palette hair and on-palette clothing, jewelry, and makeup, or
Right: On-palette hair, clothing, jewelry, and makeup?
